ARM’s Botanist USFWS Qualified Surveyor for Running Buffalo Clover
ARM’s botanist, Scott Martin, is now an approved United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS)
qualified surveyor for the Running Buffalo Clover (Trifolium stoloniferum), a federally listed endangered plant species. Scott is qualified to conduct surveys in Ohio and West Virginia, and approval is pending in Pennsylvania. Surveys can be conducted April – September but the preferred survey period is generally May – June.
The Running Buffalo Clover prefers periodic disturbance and somewhat open habitat, which historically this type of habitat was maintained by the disturbance caused by bison. The species is endangered due to the loss of habitat and bison as well as affects from invasive species, succession, and excessive grazing.
If you need assistance with botanical surveys for state or federally listed species, including the Running Buffalo Clover and Northeastern Bulrush (Scirpus ancistrochaetus), please contact Scott Martin at 717-439-2775 or via email at smartin@armgroup.net.
