October is a great time to highlight two important environmental topics: bats and riparian buffers! You might be wondering—how are they connected?
Riparian buffers, which are forested areas along streams and rivers, provide essential habitats for bats, especially species that have experienced significant population declines. Bats play a crucial role in ecosystems by naturally managing insect populations, but many are now vulnerable due to habitat destruction, disease, and other environmental pressures.
These buffers don’t just benefit bats—they help improve water quality by filtering pollutants, stabilize temperatures in aquatic environments, prevent erosion, and create habitats for a variety of wildlife, including the bats we recognize this month.
At ARM Group, our Natural Resources team is actively working to protect and enhance these critical areas. By conducting bat surveys, assessing habitats, recommending riparian plantings, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, we are committed to supporting the ecosystems that both bats and humans rely on.
