Gas Well Project

Clinton County, Pennsylvania

ARM's team approach led to successful project planning and implementation of a thoughtful permit strategy to achieve natural gas system goals for our client within a location containing natural resource and engineering challenges and landowner constraints. The project involved evaluations for an approximate 178-acre investigation area, including a proposed well pad, access roads, and 2.75 miles of gathering pipeline corridor to satisfy species of concern evaluation areas. Project constraints managed and overcome included high-quality watershed, high groundwater table and associated seeps, critical habitat for a species of concern, Exceptional Value (EV) wetlands, steep topography, rock outcrops, State forestland to the southeast, and landowner placement requests. Completion of the project highlights described below contributed to meeting the client’s goals and realizing cost efficiencies.

Project Details

  • Completion of early project planning through review of desktop level resource mapping and an on-site scoping/review meeting to minimize field efforts and avoid critical resources (EV wetlands)
  • Development of thoughtful permitting strategy to identify regulatory thresholds, advance critical project paths and maintain the project schedule
  • Achievement of reduced field deployments by simultaneously completing Northeastern Bulrush, Allegheny Woodrat, and Timber Rattlesnake habitat assessments and aquatic resource investigations
  • Implementation of a proactive investigative approach to evaluate two project areas to avoid future delays and seasonal survey conflicts
  • Realization of environmental cost savings of approximately $14,000 in species of concern assessments and avoidance planning
  • Development of and agency acceptance of plan to avoid Timber Rattlesnake den and gestational habitat
  • Implementation of improvements for Timber Rattlesnake gestational habitat
