A 60,000 SF multi-story addition to company headquarters was constructed on a site with karst geologic conditions. Portions of the existing building were scheduled for demolition due to the presence of historic unsuitable fill materials and sinkholes. Other sinkholes were present on the site around the building.

Project Highlights

  • Performed test borings
  • Provided geotechnical engineering report
  • Several Electrical Resistivity (ER) surveys were performed to diagnose the impact of sinkholes and impending sinkholes
  • Micropile foundation system was installed to support the building framing. ARM coordinated efforts with the structural engineer to formulate the most efficient arrangement for the same micropiles to also support the ground floor
  • Provided troubleshooting of sinkholes and micropile installations and review micropile load tests, including efficient solutions to a lack of lateral support where sinkholes were encountered. The new building will safely serve as the new headquarters for years to come
