ARM Senior Vice President, Neil Peters, P.E., will be discussing the Annapolis Renewable Energy Park on Wednesday, August 28 at the 2019 Quad State Conference in Asheville, North Carolina.
This “Solar Builder Magazine 2018 Silver Project of the Year” uses more than 50,000 panels to convert sunlight into electricity on approximately 80 acres of the closed and capped Annapolis landfill. At the time of completion, the project was the largest solar project exclusively installed on a closed landfill in the United States, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. The project put 100+ people to work and will generate over 20,000 MWh of clean electricity each year (enough to power more than 12 percent of the city’s homes), and will generate more than $5 million in revenue for the city over the course of its 20-year lease, as well as save taxpayers an estimated $1.7 million over that time.
ARM’s client, EDF Renewables North America , was the primary engineering, procurement, and construction firm for this cutting-edge solar project. ARM completed geotechnical, electrical, structural, and civil engineering services to overcome the hurdles presented by construction on a capped landfill.
