The Lancaster Northwest Gateway Project – Armstrong Phase has been a collaborative effort by local stakeholders to revitalize a large industrial brownfield in the heart of northwest Lancaster. The Site is located in the City of Lancaster and is surrounded by mixed land uses, including Franklin & Marshall College, commercial/industrial businesses, warehouses, residential row homes, the Norfolk Southern Dillerville Rail Yard, Amtrak, and a new multi-purpose stadium. The cleanup was started in 2004 and completed by 2009. The Armstrong Site was used for nearly 100 years as a flooring manufacturing plant comprised of 2.65 million square feet of floor space with 196 buildings. The Project Team received the Phoenix Award for excellence in brownfield redevelopment at the National Brownfields 2011 conference in Philadelphia, PA. Created in 1997, this prestigious award honors individuals and groups who are working to solve critical environmental and community challenges when transforming formerly used real estate into productive new uses. The Phoenix Awards are widely recognized as the premier award of excellence in Brownfield redevelopment and revitalization. Radnor Property Group was also a key member of the Project Team.
