Solar Project Manager/Engineer

The primary function of this position is to manage the design, permitting and construction of solar and battery storage projects ranging from 500kW to 50MW+ in the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S.  The successful applicant will be a highly motivated, resourceful, well-organized, and cooperative producer and manager that is able to meet project goals, schedules and budgets.  ARM’s renewable energy and distributed generation team is comprised of a diverse, talented, and hard-working group of individuals committed to growing both our business and this industry.

The position will require an extensive knowledge of solar PV system design (battery storage modelling and design experience preferred) with a focus on identifying, communicating, and solving engineering and permitting risks that may impact a project’s overall feasibility, cost, or constructability. In addition to early-stage project modelling and engineering coordination, the position will also require project management responsibilities including: local on-site support involving interfacing with regulators and other officials to support permit approvals; communicating with clients on technical issues or concerns; interconnection coordination and planning with local utility; construction administration, budget management, and QA/QC of projects in construction.

This is a mid to senior level position with the responsibility and opportunity to manage projects and programs and advance within the company.

  • Design commercial and utility scale solar PV systems, including the interconnection design at primary distribution voltages (system capacity range from 500kW to 50MW+).
  • Prepare detailed models and technical documents to present solar design/feasibility findings to project stakeholders.
  • Analyze and simulate PV project energy generation (PV Syst) and shading analyses.
  • Prepare financial models for solar and solar plus storage projects using HOMER or other similar software tool. 
  • Evaluate the economic, engineering, or pragmatic feasibility of solar PV installation projects based on site and/or building constraints (i.e., constructability assessment).
  • Be able to review and interpret electrical drawings, technical specifications and single line drawings.
  • Assist the ARM business development team in estimating and selling solar PV systems.
  • Manage diverse details from construction means and methods to contract language and legal/risk protection.
  • Manage the design, permitting and construction for solar PV projects ranging from $1,000,000 to $50,000,000.
  • Maintain complicated schedules, develop project timelines, coordinate with subcontractors, and manage people and materials to complete jobs on schedule and within budget guidelines.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings and progress meetings; develop detailed meeting minutes.
  • Review and approve shop and electrical drawings from subcontractors.
  • Coordinate the construction of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Act as the direct point of contact in communication with clients and stakeholders.
  • Assess and mitigate project risks in advance of detailed engineering efforts.
  • Generate BOM’s for each project, procure bids from multiple vendors, conduct detailed bid reviews, execute PO’s for materials, and manage shipping/logistics of materials to site.

  • Familiarity with solar design/construction processes.
  • Experience managing vendor and client payment terms to achieve positive cash flow.
  • Understanding of financial models and budget management.
  • Experience with design-build contracts from ground up that result in profitable construction projects.
  • Reasonably proficient in AutoCAD, MS Office Suite, PVSyst, HOMER, and MS Project or equivalent project scheduling software.
  • Familiarity with mid-Atlantic environmental regulations governing solar projects.
  • Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) design experience (Preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, Construction, Energy Analysis, Environmental Studies, or a relevant field from an accredited four year college or university.
  • 2+ years of experience designing, permitting, and providing construction project management on design/build PV installation projects.
  • 5+ years of relevant project management experience.

Senior Engineer/Project Manager

Senior Engineer/Project Manager – ARM is currently seeking a self-motivated senior-level civil, land development, or solid waste engineering consultant. Candidate should have at least 10 years of experience in land development projects, stormwater management and erosion & sedimentation control, infrastructure design or rehabilitation, and permitting and regulatory success in the State of Maryland (surrounding states a plus).  Experience in solid waste planning; geotechnical engineering, waste management facility design, permitting, and operations support; and construction oversight and certification is a plus as is experience with renewable energy projects. The successful candidate will possess a positive attitude, an “ownership mentality”, strong organization and communication skills, and establish client relationships, define client needs, develop winning strategies, prepare proposals, manage projects profitably, and generate sales in the Mid-Atlantic region land development, solid waste management, renewable energy, and environmental markets, as well as promoting other ARM services.   Thorough knowledge and application of MD and VA stormwater and environmental regulations is highly desired.

Candidate must have the ability to manage multiple projects that produce comprehensive permitting and construction drawings and demonstrate proven sales and project management experience. A Bachelors Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering and PE license are required.  An MS degree is a plus.

Civil/Geotechnical Engineer – 0-5 Years

Civil/Geotechnical Engineering Professional 0-5 Years– Qualified candidates must demonstrate proficient verbal and written communication skills, excellent computer skills,  strong work ethic,  adaptability and teamwork skills. Candidate must have a BS or MS in civil or environmental engineering with 0-5 years of experience. Position will support a wide range of projects related to water resources, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control planning, geotechnical, construction administration, and permitting in support of the oil and gas and solid waste industries. Projects will also involve field inspections of soils, concrete, geosynthetics, pavement systems and erosion and sediment controls. Past construction inspection and/or field testing experience (including nuclear density gauge, ACI certification, or GRI/GSI geosynthetics installation experience) preferred.

Senior AutoCAD Designer

Senior AutoCAD Designer – Candidate should have 10 or more years of experience in drafting for civil engineering and /or surveying projects. Position will support a wide range of projects related to water resources, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control planning, geotechnical, construction administration, and permitting in support of the solid waste and oil & gas industries.  Qualified candidates must have proficient verbal and written communication skills, excellent computer skills, strong work ethic, adaptability and teamwork skills.  Candidate must have proven drafting presentation skills, must be proficient with AutoCAD and Civil 3D 2014, or newer, and be able to efficiently generate grading plans, profiles, sections details, and quantity/volume calculations. Must have computer literacy in Microsoft Word and Excel.  CAD Designer should be accustomed to completing work with limited supervision, on budget and within expected timeframes, and be comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary team environment.  At a minimum, an AutoCAD Certificate is required.  An Associate Degree in Survey, Drafting, or Engineering is a plus.
