Radiation Protection

In December 2000 and January 2001, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) adopted regulations requiring the preparation of Radiation Protection Plans for municipal and residual waste facilities, respectively. To comply with the new regulations, permitted solid waste facilities are required to monitor wastes for radioactive materials. The new regulations required that permitted solid waste facilities modify their permit applications to include Radiation Protection Plans.

ARM partnered with certified health physicists (CHPs) to apply radiation physics in a practical and collaborative effort, to prepare major permit modifications on behalf of our clients. To date, ARM has prepared Radiation Protection Plans for 12 waste facilities in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. We have also provided the requisite personnel training to more than 50 solid waste facility operators to comply with Radiation Protection Plans.
