Multi Analysis of Shear Waves Spill Investigation
ARM Geophysics performed MASW surveys along with other geophysical methods at a site located in Maryland. A large gasoline leak occurred at this location and ARM assisted the prime contractor and the responsible party by using geophysical techniques to locate fractures and other preferential pathways.
To achieve this objective, Electrical Resistivity (ER) and MASW profiles were collected over suspected fractures in the bedrock. The locations of the traverses were selected based on fracture trace analysis methods such as review of aerial photographs for lineament trends.
The MASW (and ER) data ERI profiles detected the presence of several sets of fracture systems. The results and interpretations of the geophysical surveys were delivered to the client for their further evaluation and guidance for selection of new monitoring wells and recovery wells to intercept the free-phase plume.
