Geotechnical Engineer

ARM is looking to add a Geotechnical Engineer to out team. Qualified candidates must demonstrate proficient verbal and written communication skills, excellent computer skills, strong work ethic, adaptability, and teamwork skills. The successful candidate will possess a positive attitude, an “ownership mentality”, and establish client relationships, define client needs, develop winning strategies, prepare proposals and generate sales in the Mid-Atlantic region, as well as promote other ARM services.   Position will support a wide range of projects requiring broad knowledge and experience in geotechnical engineering, including: shallow foundations; deep foundations; retaining structures; karst hazards; mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) berms/walls; slope stability; ground improvement techniques; geotechnical support of shale gas projects and solid waste projects; and others. Experience with dam inspections, monitoring, rehab, and permitting is also desired.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Maintain schedules, develop project timelines, coordinate with subcontractors, and manage people and materials to complete jobs on schedule and within budget guidelines.
  • Act as the direct point of contact in communication with clients and stakeholders.
  • Assess and mitigate project risks in advance of detailed engineering efforts.
  • Assist the ARM business development team, including the preparation of technical proposals.
  • Perform and/or check technical calculations and prepare project reports and specifications.
  • Prepare client communications, proposals, contract documents, etc. and consults with other internal partners as needed.
  • Monitor project work progress, adhere to the scope of work and communicate with key stakeholders including the project manager, client, and subcontractors.
  • Pro-actively recognize conditions and problems of non-routine nature and develop effective solutions.

Base Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is a minimum.       Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering is preferred.
  • P.E. registration required.
  • 5+ years of geotechnical experience.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills: articulate, assertive, and confident.
  • Strong organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple, complex projects.
  • Creative thinker with effective teamwork skills.
  • Ambitious and eager to grow.
  • Detail-oriented and thorough.
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivated mentality.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with key stakeholders.
  • Must have strong technical competency and analytical ability.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Experience managing vendor and client payment terms to achieve positive cash flow.
  • Understanding of financial models and budget management.
  • Reasonably proficient in AutoCAD, MS Office Suite, and other industry-specific software.

Civil Staff Engineer

ARM is looking for a self-driven and energetic Staff Engineer who is looking to grow and embodies an ownership mentality.   As a Staff Engineer, you will collaborate with a team of multi-disciplined engineers and scientist, project managers, CAD designers, and other staff to service our client’s needs. This role will support a wide range of projects related to solid waste management, environmental services, geotechnical engineering, oil and gas, water resources, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control planning, and construction administration.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and update design drawings and investigation reports.
  • Observe and monitor field work to analyze possible problems.
  • Perform and/or check technical calculations.
  • Use the principles of soil science, biology, and chemistry to develop solutions to environmental problems.
  • Provide technical support for environmental remediation projects.
  • Research code, zoning, ordinances, and other requirements as needed to ensure project compliance.
  • Prepare reports, letters, emails, permit applications, etc. for projects.
  • Collaborate with other team members to meet deliverables on project and obtain further knowledge and experiences.
  • Effectively communicate with key stake holders including project manager, project engineers, and other members of the project team.
  • Pro-actively recognize conditions and problems of non-routine nature, develop solutions, and seek guidance when needed.

Base Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Environmental, or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • E.I.T. certification preferred, but opportunity to obtain certification can be developed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Autodesk Civil 3D or equivalent engineering software is a plus.
  • A self-starter possessing strong communication, planning and organizational skills.
  • Desire to work on multiple projects in parallel rather than a single large project for months.
  • Requires travel to job sites and occasionally out of the local area overnight stay.
