ARM Participated in the Great Insect Fair

ARM’s biologists and engineers participated in the Great Insect Fair at the Pennsylvania State University’s Agricultural Arena on September 23, 2017. The annual event celebrating insects is hosted by Penn State’s Department of Entomology. ARM presented a display of benthic macroinvertebrate insects found in Pennsylvania streams so the children could understand the importance of conducting stream assessments to determine water quality, biological conditions and the health of streams. The children experienced handling the biologist’s equipment such as nets, sieve, buckets, hip waders, chest waders, tweezers, safety vests, and hard hats. ARM provided informational handouts regarding the types of insects found in Pennsylvania streams so they could identify insects they see in the streams they visit.
